Panjab University (PU) has decided to discontinue the MBA (executive) degree from the new academic session in 2013-14. The decision was taken during a syndicate meet on Tuesday.

Meant for working professionals in management and corporate field, the course has 39 seats. According to reports, faculty crunch and lack of student’s interest were the chief reasons behind scrapping the course. Officials revealed that only one-fourth of the seats were occupied presently. Out of 49 students enrolled in the last batch, only 17 could qualify conditions and eventually eight students were attending classes regularly.

Meanwhile, PU central placement cell is gearing up for its three-day long recruitment drive, Avsar, for students across all departments. On the first day, placements will be held for students enrolled in professional courses such as management, engineering and law. The second day will be dedicated to students of various sciences and humanities, while the third day will be a reserve day. The venue for this year's placement drive is the University Institute of Applied and Management Studies (UIAMS).

Interested students need to register with the placement cell. Organisers have uploaded a detailed registration form on the PU website. Students have to fill the details and submit it online.
