Oxford University's Said Business School has launched a new MBA scholarship program for its ‘1+1 MBA Program’. Five scholarships will be doled out each year to "promising future leaders of social change.” Oxford's '1+1 MBA Program' allows a student to pair the MBA program with another master's program and receive both degrees in one year.

Said Business School and The Pershing Square Foundation are jointly offering the scholarship. The first five Oxford Pershing Square Scholars will join the 1+1 MBA programme in Autumn 2014.

According to a press release, “scholarship programme will fund up to five scholarships a year for promising future leaders of social change studying for the Oxford 1+1 MBA programme at Said Business School.” It is meant for “extraordinary individuals to develop and realise their potential as future global leaders who are committed to addressing world-scale social challenges.”

‘Supporting exceptional leaders who can tackle important social issues and deliver scalable and sustainable impact is a critical part of The Pershing Square Foundation’s mission,’ said Bill Ackman, founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management.

‘Our hope is that, over time, the Pershing Square Scholars will grow into a powerful and insightful community, supporting each other to secure social change,’ said Professor Peter Tufano, Dean of Said Business School. ‘Increasingly, it is essential for successful change makers to have strong technical skills and domain knowledge in conjunction with rich management training. The Oxford 1+1 MBA programme is designed to address the complexity of the challenges which will be faced by the next generation of business leaders, and will point the way forward for 21st century postgraduate business education. At Oxford we are uniquely positioned to combine the learning from across a world-class university with the insights of a rigorous and highly-respected one year MBA,’ he further added.

The Pershing Square Foundation has gifted a fund of £4.5m to award the scholarships. The University of Oxford has further provided £3m under the Oxford Graduate Scholarship Matched Fund, taking the total Scholarship funding to £7.5m, informed a release.
