Shiksha Campus Rep answers all queries about Welingkar
Shiksha.com recently held a special counselling session on WhatsApp for Prin LN Welingkar Institute of Management (WE), Mumbai. The campus representative, Ruchi Mehta, answered all queries related to the college during the event.
The group chat included a variety of topics such as life in college, what are the good specialisations offered, group discussion and interview tips, placements, and so on.
WE School, with campuses in Mumbai and Bangalore, offers Masters of Management Studies (MMS) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). Some of the specialisations offered includes Marketing Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, Rural Management, General Management, Operations Management, E-business, Healthcare management and Hospitality Management.

Query: What is best choice for specialisation at Welingkar?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Specialisation depends on your area of interest. Marketing and HR are good in Welingkar. Finance and operations isn't that great.
Query: If I get selected will my fees get converted into loan?
Welingkar Campus Rep: There are loan options available through college.
Query: Can you let me know about placements of marketing?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Marketing placements are good. But mostly depends on which program you opt for because there are multiple options and it’s all about how different you are from your competition.
Query: What are cut-offs like?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Welingkar doesn't have a fixed cut-off. It is a comprehensive score of your past academic records, entrance scores, work experience (if any).
Query: What is average package?
Welingkar Campus Rep: The average package is around Rs 7.5 lakhs per annum.
Query: Can you elaborate on options/specialisations available?
Welingkar Campus Rep: There is core PG, e-biz, retail, rural, business design, and healthcare.
Query: Heard a lot about the creativity test in Welingkar. What is it actually?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Creativity test is scrapped, I think. But I will have to check about that.
Query: Can you tell me about healthcare course in Welingkar, as I am pharmaceutical student.
Welingkar Campus Rep: Healthcare involves a studying about hospital management. It is an upcoming field.
Query: Do they select people with work experience or freshers? Who are given more preference?
Welingkar Campus Rep: There is a good balance of freshers and people with work experience. Both are given equal chances.
Query: When is GDPI conducted?
Welingkar Campus Rep: GDPI can be at the end of April or mid-June.
Query: Do pharmaceutical companies come for placements?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Yes, there are a few pharmaceutical companies that come to campus during placements.
Query: Does the difference between PGDM and MBA affect the placements and career promotions later on, even though both are equivalent courses?
Welingkar Campus Rep: No, there isn't much difference between the two.
Query: What will be the cut-off for CET? What are the chances to get in?
Welingkar Campus Rep: The chances are totally dependent on the overall performance of all candidates applying to Welingkar this year. If the overall score is low, then it’s easy to get in. If scores are high and the applicants have a strong background in academics and work-ex, it becomes competitive to get it.
Query: My CMAT score is 75 and I am currently in third year B.Com. So can I get admission in WE?
Welingkar Campus Rep: That score might be too low to get through.
Query: Can u throw some light on the selection process for GD PI?
Welingkar Campus Rep: I am student at Welingkar. So I don't know the thought process behind choosing candidates for GD/PI.
Query: Is there any reserve category?
Welingkar Campus Rep: There is no reserve category. You can work for a year and prepare well for next year.
Query: Is there any future scope for MBA in hospital administration?
Welingkar Campus Rep: It is an upcoming field. Both hospital administration and management are areas that require attention. Hence Welingkar has a special course dedicated to it.
Query: Is there any concession in fees for OBC candidates who are applying through CET?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Yes, there is a concession. But I will have to check and get back to u about it.
Query: Are there short diploma courses at Welingkar? I am looking for marketing courses. Does it have value?
Welingkar Campus Rep: If you already have a background in management and think it will be enough to do a short diploma, then it’s a good option. But to gain overall business knowledge, MBA is a must.
Query: Please tell me the name of courses for hospital administration and eligibility for admissions in Welingkar?
Welingkar Campus Rep: The course is PGDM in Healthcare and the criteria is CMAT/CET/XAT/ATMA score of most recent session, minimum 50% in graduation.
Query: What is the expected MH CET cut off for GD PI this time?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Welingkar never reveals their cut-off for selection. Last year, there was no MH CET. I have seen student’s CMAT scores ranging 130 to 250 and above also get through.
Query: Is project management related to marketing?
Welingkar Campus Rep: No, it isn’t. Project management is very different from Marketing.
Query: Does the college offer project management?
Welingkar Campus Rep: No, it doesn’t.
Query: Can you tell some of the top recruiting companies that come for placements and summer internships?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Accenture, Infosys, TCS, Croma, Tata Motors, and ICICI come to campus every year.
Query: What is selection process at Welingkar?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Once you have applied at Welingkar, there is a psychometric test followed by a GD/PI and then the final short list is declared.
Query: How many seats are there in total?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Total six PGDM programs at Welingkar have 480 seats.
Query: When will the results be declared for psychometric test?
Welingkar Campus Rep: The date hasn't been declared but it could be around the end of April. You will be given a call for the result of psychometric test as to whether you have bee are selected for GD PI. You’ll also get a mail.
Query: May be you can share some last minute insights about your college.
Welingkar Campus Rep: My one year at Welingkar has given me a lot of exposure to the management world. There is a lot to learn. Various industry people come to our college and we are given a chance to interact with them. Life is hectic at Welingkar with lectures all day. You might not even get a holiday for months together but in the end you learn a lot.
Query: What about international courses? Many institutes offer some months of training/teaching abroad.
Welingkar Campus Rep: The college does have tie-ups with a few universities abroad. But that is optional. There is a selection process for that as well.
Query: What about the timings of the lectures?
Welingkar Campus Rep: Lectures can be anywhere between 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. There is a weekly schedule and keeps changing based on the syllabus and the visiting faculty.
