Six students of IIM-A bagged internship offers from APJ Abdul Kalam's office

In 2011, during the summer placements at Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A), former President APJ Abdul Kalam has emerged as one of the top recruiters. According to a source, six students of IIM-A bagged internship offers from Kalam's office and they will be handling various social campaigns and roles related to rural development under the former president.

An official stated that it is a good indication and an increasing number of students are taking interest in social sector. Out of the figure of 6 students, one belongs to the post-graduate programme in agri-business management (PGPABM) the rest are from the post-graduate programme in management (PGP).

This year the number of students opting for social sector at IIM-A has increased considerably. Last year, only four students of the institute had done internship with Kalam. A city-based organization National Innovation Foundation (NIF), which hired four students last year, returned to the campus to hire 11 students this year.

More than 20 companies conducted interviews during the day with Tata Steel making the highest number of offers. Other companies like Aviva Insurance and Samsonite also took part in the recruitment. Agneya Carbon Ventures, started by three IIM-A alumni last year, also offered summer internships to the students this year.
