TANCET 2012 scheduled for March 31st 2012
TANCET stands for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test. It is a common entrance test for admission to various Master's level programs. The Government of Tamil Nadu has chosen Anna University to conduct the exam for the academic year 2012. This exam is a gateway for admission to various programmes like MBA, MCA, ME/M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M Plan degree programmes offered in colleges in Tamilnadu.
TANCET for MBA and MCA is scheduled for 31st March, 2012 while TANCET for ME/M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M Plan will be held on 1st April, 2012. Some universities and self-financing engineering colleges may also accept the TANCET scores to admit the candidates.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for MBA:
To be eligible for this exam, one should have passed bachelors with minimum 50 per cent marks in any discipline from a recognised university. (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category)
Eligibility for MCA:
One should have completed bachelors program with minimum 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) at the qualifying examination
- 10+2+3/4 years pattern with Mathematics at +2 level
- 10+3 years Diploma + 3 years pattern
Eligibility for ME/M.Tech. /M.Arch. /M.Plan:
Should have completed bachelors or equivalent in the field with minimum 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) at the qualifying examination
B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. degree programme
Or
B.Pharm/B.Sc. (Agri. / Forestry / Horticulture / Fishery) degree programme
Or
Master's Degree in the relevant branch of Science / Arts, which are prescribed
Or
M.Sc. (5 years) Integrated Degree Programme
Or
B.Sc. (3 years) in IT related major courses and M.Sc. (2 years) in IT related major courses
Note:
- Aspirants admitted through lateral entry in degree courses are not eligible except, B.E./B.Tech degree courses
- Candidates with B.E/B.Tech./M.C.A./M.Sc. degrees obtained through week end courses and B.E./B.Tech through distance mode are not eligible
Pattern of the Examination
For MBA:
The duration of the exam will be 2 hours and it will comprise of 100 objective type questions. There is also a provision for negative marking and each correct answer will carry 1 mark while 1/5 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
The exam is divided into 5 sections:
- Reading Comprehension
- English Usage
- Business Situation
- Quantitative Ability
- Data Sufficiency
For MCA:
The duration of the exam will be 2 hours. The question paper is divided into 4 sections:
- Quantitative Ability
- Analytical reasoning
- Logical reasoning
- Computer awareness
For ME/M.Tech. /M.Arch. /M.Plan:
The duration of this exam will be 2 hours. The question paper will have 3 sections- Part-I and Part-II is compulsory and for Part-III, candidates have to choose any one section out of 14 based on his/her specialization area.
