Want to pursue MBA in Hindi! Heres your chance

by Barkha Sethi

Master of Business Administration (MBA) is one of the most opted programmes by students. Pursuing MBA after graduation is dream for many. While some successfully fulfil their dream, many others fail to do so due to some or the other limitation.
Limitations can be of any kind – finance, environment, health, resources, institutes and even language. In a country like India especially, many adults fail to pursue MBA because of language barrier. English language proficiency is must for regular MBA courses.
Naturally, a few aspiring students are left in lurch due to their lack of command over English.
But what if, one could pursue MBA in Hindi! If management education can be provided in English, Korean, Japanese and other languages, then why not Hindi?
You will be surprised to know, that pursuing MBA in Hindi is not a distant dream anymore! Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (Mahatma Gandhi Hindi International University) is doing exactly that!
Mahatma Gandhi Hindi International University provides Distance MBA education in Hindi. This Maharashtra-based University, established in 1997, strives to provide short term Hindi courses in order to promote Hindi language. Not only MBA, but various courses like BBA, PhD, language based courses, etc, are offered by the University.

MBA in Hindi
Initiated in 2007, the course aims at providing education to everyone at their doorsteps. Not only in India, but the university provides courses to international students. With the changing scenario and working of financial departments in India, the programme explores this managerial area for students – with Banking, Insurance, Finance and Human Resource being the focus areas.
According to an official of the University, “The motive of providing MBA in Hindi is to promote our the language. Many people want to do an MBA, but not every person knows English. It is for such people, the university caters this course.”

Details of the Programme
The minimum duration of the programme is three years and the maximum is five years. Candidates from any discipline irrespective of age bar can apply for the course. The mode of examination is offline as well as online. Apart from theory, students are offered practical training. They are taught management principles and managerial behaviour in span of three-year course.
The tuition fees for the three-year MBA course is approximately Rs 40,000 to 50,000. The programme is successful in terms of number of students, informed the institute official.

Praising the motives of the course, Shiksha expert Arvind Joshi says, “This is something new, but was required badly for metamorphosis of the mindset which believes that English is the only medium for study of Management.”
However, the existence of the programme is debatable in terms of usefulness and approach.
According to another Shiksha Expert Rahul Chauhan, “MBA in Hindi is a revolutionary step. But, it is too much too early. Recently we just saw how the CSAT UPSC was politicised by vested interests. What I feel that first we should work on improving the knowledge of Hindi at the grassroot level. I have observed that currently the students of ICSE, IB, IGCSE, CBSE as well as State boards are lagging behind in the overall knowledge of Hindi. Their vocabulary, diction, grammar is hopeless. We will have to take drastic steps to improve the level of Hindi teaching in such schools right from Kindergarten to 10th STD. If all of us want to project Hindi as our national language it should be given proper focus, collective team effort and government willingness to implement the same. The current stage of Hindi in India is like Hockey. Though Hockey is the national game but Cricket is more popular and commercialised.”

IGNOU and Mumbai University also have MBA in Hindi.
