The Odisha higher education department has asked authorities from Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) to submit a status report on the upcoming Xavier University.

The department has addressed a letter to the Director, Xavier Institute of Management (XIM), inquiring about the completion of phase wise construction work, opening of various streams of the varsity, development of infrastructure and status on the formation of the board of governors. It further urges to disclose information about setting up of endowment funds.

The university is coming up at Nijigarh in Pipili tehsil and is spread over 35 acres of land. Earlier this year, the state had passed the Xavier University Bill-2013 with a condition to make it functional within two years.

Meanwhile, a local daily reported that XIMB has doled out admissions to 60 extra students in the MBA course for 2013-15 session, increasing the intake capacity of PGDM course from 180 to 240. The fate of these 60 students is now uncertain, as Xavier University is yet to be functional. However, the varsity does not have the approval of the University Grant Commission (UGC), nor does it have any academic council, senate or syndicate to start the course, confirmed sources.
