The Supreme Court has given green signal to the proposal of Medical council of India (MCI) to conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) viz. National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) medical courses in the country. It has also directed the council to take the necessary steps which are required to implement the NEET.

In order to get this done, the Central Government has constituted a Committee to finalize the modalities for implementation of NEET. After the implementation of NEET, it would be applicable to all medical colleges which come under the aegis of MCI. It does include the 54 percent MBBS seats that are available in private medical colleges.

Furthermore, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the agency for conducting NEET for UG and it has constituted an Advisory Committee consisting of Members from all States to address the issues of admission processes prevalent in various States like reservation, medium of test, etc.
