HC declines plea to trash medical entrance exam
Few days back, some of the candidates had filed a petition to scrap the All-India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE). The exam was held on 8th January, 2012 at 156 centers across the country for 69,069 candidates.
The petition filed by five candidates, mentioned the reports of copying from various centers including Noida. The petitioners have also asked AIIMS to suggest preventive measures to stop the re-occurrence of cheating cases in the PG entrance exam.
Delhi High Court dismissed the petition to trash the common entrance test for post-graduate medical courses, saying that mere apprehension of cheating cannot be a basis to trash the entire test when the incident is already under investigation by the Crime Branch, Delhi Police. Justice Hima Kohli has dismissed the pleas made by some candidates.
The basic reason for the same is still unknown and it is under investigation, so it can be said that the present petition is based on assumptions. The petition is dismissed along with the application as being premature and has no basis.
The AIIMS had also dismissed the demand by saying that it was a random incident and it has only happened at Noida center. The examination held peacefully without any disturbance in the other 155 centers. AIIMS had also filed an affidavit as per which the incident of cheating has occurred in Noida center and a mobile phone and some electronic gadgets have been recovered from 3 candidates.
The court has also stated that the petitioners are not part of the centre under investigation; all of them have appeared for their exams at different centers in Delhi. A total number of 71,968 candidates are reported to have applied for aforementioned examination and 69,069 candidates actually appeared. It is also important to note that examination centres of none of the five petitioners were situated at Noida.
