As National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduate courses (NEET-UG) is coming into action, other exams are getting merged with NEET.

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) entrance test will vanish from the academic session 2013-14. It is an all India level entrance test and is a gateway to admission to AFMC Pune. AFMC is a center of excellence for medical education and research. The institute imparts training to under-graduate (UG) and post-graduate medical and nursing students and it also ensures a career in defence. The graduate wing of the AFMC was established on August 4, 1962 to provide a sustainable and steady intake of medical officers for the Indian Armed Forces. The institute is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and conducts the UG course from August every year.

He added that medical aspirants who are applying for the NEET-UG will have to mention their preference for AFMC when they submit their application forms. If you will mention AFMC in the application form then only you will be interviewed by the AFMC selection panel following the NEET-UG results.

The college takes physical fitness and psychological approach very seriously among candidates. You won't get a seat at AFMC on the basis of NEET-UG marks unless you clear the evaluation criteria which have been set up by the college itself.

In the beginning, MCI had proposed NEET to be conducted from 2012-13 to cut down the number of exams that are being held at all India level for admission to medical colleges. This move by MCI has received disagreement from several states including Maharashtra on the basis that 12th standard student's needs some time to adjust to the new course that has been finalized for the all-India entrance test.

Some other questions have also been raised that whether the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and the AFMC will get merged or would join NEET exams for UG and post-graduate courses.
