More MBBS, BDS seats in Punjab
The Punjab government appears determined to increase MBBS and BDS seats in the state medical colleges. The state government has been working on its agenda to increase the number of intake seats from 150 to 250 at Government Medical Colleges in Patiala and Amritsar, respectively.
Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot already submitted the required documents to Medical Council of India (MCI) to increase the intake from 50 to 100, an official spokesperson informed HT.
To back the initiative, the state government has invested Rs 90.83 crore for infrastructure upgrades needed in medical colleges to meet the requirement for increasing seats. As for the private medical colleges the spokesperson said that the government had issued No Objection Certificates/ Essentiality Certificate in favour of Guru Nanak Dev Medical College, Dhahan Kaleran for annual intake up to 100 seats.
An NOC for starting another medical and one dental college in private sector was said to be underway.
