With the introduction of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), MCI (Medical Council of India) has revised the norms for admission to MBBS course with effect from the academic year 2013-14. The change in norms is associated to the marks acquired in the Entrance Examination (NEET).

As per the new revised norms, the percentile will be determined on the basis of the highest marks secured in the All India Common Merit list in NEET.

It should also be noted that if a large number of students in any category fail to secure the minimum marks prescribed, the Government in consultation with the MCI may decide to lower the minimum marks for that category. The lowered minimum marks for the category will be applicable for admissions for that particular year only.

Other eligibility requirements:

  • Entrants should have studied specific subjects and also secured the minimum marks stipulated, in the qualifying examination in addition to the marks stipulated in NEET.
  • Candidates should have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually and should have secured at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in the qualifying examination to be eligible for admission to MBBS, in addition to finding a place in the Merit list of NEET.
  • Those belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories, should have secured at least 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in the qualifying examination. While those with locomotory disability of the lower limbs, should have secured 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in the qualifying examination.
