The National Medical Commission has issued an advisory to all medical colleges, directing them to conduct the final year postgraduate broad speciality and super speciality exams at the earliest. The advisory has been issued amid declining trend of covid cases in most parts of the country. The advisory has been issued by MK Ramesh, President, Postgraduate Medical Education Board.
“The COVID-19 caused disruptions in all walks of life in the country for the last one and a half year. Expectedly the medical students had to endure the major brunt of this. The NEET examination was postponed, delaying the arrival of fresh batch of Postgraduate students,” the advisory said.
“The universities, may as per their discretion, adopt internal valuation of theory answer scripts by the institutions themselves. The earlier advisories regarding relaxation in the examination norms shall be in force for these examinations also,” it further stated.
Earlier, PG exams in several medical colleges across the country were postponed due to a surge in covid cases and ensuing lockdowns. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for postgraduate studies, or NEET PG 2021 was postponed for at least four months from its original schedule of April 15. On May 3, 2021, the government announced that NEET PG will be deferred till August 31, 2021 as final year MBBS students will be engaged in covid duty. NMC also announced that COVID-19 management will be treated as a compulsory internship for medical interns. Apart from NEET PG, many other entrance exams including INI CET 2021, JEE Mains were also deferred due to the corona-led situation.
NMC has issued a fresh advisory as the situation is getting normal in terms of covid cases. The Commission wants college authorities to complete postgraduate broad speciality and super speciality exams at the earliest convenient time “depending on local COVID situation”.
