NRI doctors eye India for better job prospects

Medical Professionals round the globe, especially in UK and other developed countries have been hit by the economic slowdown. It is said that around 10,000 doctors who are retiring shortly and others are eyeing India as a job destination.
The doctors comprising larger section of medical faculty are keen to explore the teaching options as well since the medical colleges here are in greater demand. With many medical institutes coming up, India offers many interesting and lucrative job opportunities. Moreover reports suggest that India requires 6 lakh doctors and 10 lakh nurses.
At present 40,000 doctors are practicing in British National Health Services alone, out of five lakh doctors serving abroad. According to Dr Ramesh Mehta, the president of British association of physicians of Indian origin, the recent generation of NRI doctors is giving more preference to India over other countries. India at present is being considered as a safer bet. Given the growth and entrepreneurship opportunities in India BPIO held talks with the Indian Government for recognizing foreign doctors to practice here. Dr Sanku Rao, the vice-president of Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) also said that even American doctors of Indian origin are planning to start their careers in India.
