Medical Council of India (MCI) has announced in a meeting that students from West Bengal will not get question paper in Bengali from next year onwards; when they will appear for the common medical test for admissions to medical colleges across the country. It has also stated clear that question papers will be made available only in Hindi and English; and no other regional language.

However, the cutoff marks for admission to the medical college have been already decided. Previously there was a certain percentage to appear for the exam like previously a student had to secure 50 per cent aggregate to appear for the medical entrance examination in the country; but now there is no such limit.

Till this year, students from the other states had been provided with the advantage of conducting question papers in Bengali when they appeared for the state Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). As per experts, JEE is subjective and some sort of language skills are required to an extent. Whereas common entrance test is concerned, language would not make much difference as it have multiple choice questions.
