Dental colleges blackmail students for deposit fee
A group of students from three private dental colleges in Indore say that they are being pressurised to surrender a deposit fee of Rs 2.75 lakh to get their academic documents back. They have also lodged a complaint to this effect at the Dean Students' Welfare Office of the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.
The students have already completed the course and passed the required examinations but their course is still not deemed completed, as they have not submitted the stated deposit fee. They are already 2.5 years behind the schedule to complete their course.
Earlier, some of the private dental colleges in Indore had also been accused of charging semester fee from students who received ATKT in the final year BDS examination. ATKT means ‘Allowed to keep terms', which is a provision that allows students to continue studying in the next semester even if they have not passed the required number of subjects in the previous semester.
The students have to clear the subjects they have failed in the previous semester to be able to complete the course. Government colleges do not charge semester fee from ATKT students. The DAVV has promised to form a high power committee soon and investigate the matter. Read more
