Academic activities in West Bengal higher educational institutions to remain suspended until July 31: Education Minister
All academic activities in the state-run higher education institutions to remain suspended until July 31, West Bengal government announced.
West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has announced that all the state-run higher educational institutions will remain closed for students and all the academic activities will remain suspended until July 31 due to coronavirus pandemic.
While talking to the reporters, the Education Minister said that the head of the Universities will chalk out the way to carry on the administrative functions while ensuring the health factor of the staff.
“Previously it was decided on extending the suspension of academic activities in higher educational institutions until June 30. However, in view of the prevailing situation (due to coronavirus outbreak) the government has decided to extend the period until July 31. I am announcing this after speaking to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issue,” the minister said.
The schools in the state will also remain closed until July 31 due to the pandemic situation, the minister had announced earlier.
Responding to question on conducting the remaining WB 12th examination, the minister said, all preparations are being made to conduct the remaining papers of the class 12 examination of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education and “the government is keeping a close watch on the emerging situation.”
The minister had earlier this month announced revised WBCHSE date sheet 2020 for remaining papers according to which the exams will be conducted on July 2, July 6 and July 8.
To a question if final semester exams will be held in universities or the students will be evaluated on basis of marks in previous semesters, the minister said: “The government will take a decision on the issue of holding semester exams after June 26.”
