Assam government to reopen Elementary Schools in the state from January 1

The minister also stated that the detailed SOPs and Guidelines for the reopening of elementary schools in the state will be released by the state government soon.

Assam Schools Reopening: The Assam State Government decided that it is planning to reopen elementary schools in the state from January 1, 2021, onwards. The news regarding the reopening of the schools was confirmed by the Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press meet. According to the reports, the schools in Assam will reopen in a phased and staggered manner keeping in mind the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The minister also stated that the detailed SOPs and Guidelines for the reopening of elementary schools in the state will be released by the state government soon.

As part of the reopening process, the government has already reopened the colleges and schools for Classes 6 to 12 from November 2, 2020, onwards. Meanwhile, the physical classes in the universities have not started yet as the government has not allowed reopening the hostels yet.

Earlier, the State Health Minister directed the State Education Department to permit students of Class 6 and above to attend school in the state. However, in order to attend schools, students are mandatorily required to carry a consent form from their parents. Moreover, schools are also asked to follow an odd-even system of attendance in order to contain the COVID-19 spread among the students, as part of the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines and protocols.

So far, Assam’s total COVID tally has grown to 2,12,617 with the addition of 134 new cases on November 30. Meanwhile, the total fatalities also rose to 98 with the addition of 1 more death on Sunday.
