Assam Government to take decision on reopening of schools for Classes 6 to 8 after reviewing COVID-19 situation
Assam Government is mulling reopening of primary schools for students of Classes 6 to 8 from November 1.
The Assam government has said that it is planning to reopen the primary schools for students of Classes 6 to 8 from November 1 after thoroughly reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the state. The government also said that it will take a call on opening the school for primary schools after reviewing the coronavirus infection rate in schools and colleges where offline classes for students 9 to 12 are going on since September 21.
As per a media house, the state education department sources has revealed that the classroom teaching for student below Class 6 is unlikely to resume anytime soon.
The state Education Department has written to the district education authorities to urgently furnish the number of COVID-19 positive students of Classes 9 to 12 who are attending school on voluntary basis for the last 15 days. The state government has also constituted a six-member committee, headed by the deputy commissioners of all the districts in the state, to monitor the ground situation in the schools every 15 days. The panel has been entrusted with the responsibility to ensure that the schools that have been reopened function safely and effectively during the current pandemic situation.
“We have received the SOPs from the department of school education under the Union Education Ministry. Based on this SOP and considering the local conditions in Assam, another SOP will be formulated for the state as the state education department is pondering upon reopening classes for students of Classes 6 to 8. But two aspects – turnout and COVID-19 infection among students, teachers and non-teaching staff- are going to be crucial in making this decision. The education minister’s go-ahead is being awaited in this regard,” a senior official of the state education department told a media house.
