Bharat Bandh: Around 10 Central Trade Unions have called a nationwide Bharat Bandh strike on February 12, 2026. The protest is against four new Labour Codes. Amid the demonstration, schools and colleges are expected to be closed.
The 10 central trade unions which announced the Bharat Bandh tomorrow include - AITUC, HMS, INTUC, CITU, IUTUC, AICCTU, LPF, TUCC, SEWA and UTUC. The country-wide protest is expected to cause road disruptions which can affect school buses and day to day activities. Hence, it is likely that official confirmation can come around closing of educational institutes.
As per media reports, Banking federations and farmers’ groups have extended support. More than 30 crore workers are expected to join the protest tomorrow. Significant disruptions are expected in public transport, banking and industrial sectors across the country but essential health services such as hospitals and pharmacies will remain functional.

New Labour Codes To Weaken Workers' Rights, Opines Protestors

According to traders participating in strike, the four labour laws sidelined the 29 labour laws of previous year, and these these new codes can weaken worker's rights by allowing employers to recruit and fire employees easily which will lessen job security. The traders have raised their objections against lack of social security, wage issues and privatization.
The notices related to protest have been sent across various sectors and industries. The protestors are demanding the discontinuation of the these four codes, the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill,Draft Seed Bill, and the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Act.
The protestors are also requesting restoration of MGNREGA and disposal of Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025.
