Karnataka Hijab Row: With the commencement of Karnataka 2nd PUC Exams 2022, the conflict between the system and students wearing hijabs has started all over again. Media reports suggest that two female students wearing hijab have been denied exams and returned home.  When the students were denied, they did not appear for the examination and returned instead. The incident reports are coming from Udupi, the place where it all started a few months back. The two students in question were none other than the Hijab petitioners, who have sought High Court’s intervention in the matter.

Karnataka 2nd PUC Exam Candidates Must Follow Uniform Rules

Earlier, the Karnataka High Court passed an order in favour of the state, allowing the Government to make and implement a Uniform policy. Following the orders, the state banned Hijab from the educational institutions and also from the upcoming SSLC and PUC Examinations.

The ban on wearing hijabs was implemented during the Karnataka SSLC examination which concluded some days back. The same dress code was enforced in the PUC examination as well. Karnataka 2nd PUC or Class 12 examinations started today in the state. Approximately 7 lakh students registered to appear for the Class 12 Karnataka board examination.

Karnataka education minister earlier clearly directed all the regular students to follow the rules on the uniform. “The Education department has made all the preparations for the secondary PU exams from April 22 to May 18. Regular students would have to follow the rules on the uniform but private candidates would be exempted from it. There are 6,00,519 regular students, 61,808 repeaters and 21,928 private candidates,” Nagesh said at a press conference at the Vidhana Soudha.
