The decision to cancel the board exams has come after the Supreme Court issued notices to states who had not yet cancelled the state board exams.
Tripura Board of Secondary education (TBSE) has decided to cancel the TBSE Madhyamik (matriculation) and Higher Secondary examinations due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
Announcing the decision, the education minister and cabinet spokesperson Ratan Lal Nath said the decision was jointly taken by the Education Department and the Tripura Board, considering the safety of students amid pandemic.
According to Nath, βThe TBSE Class 10 and 12 board examinations have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Marks would be assigned to them based on the suggestions of an expert committee. The students would get their results on July 31.β
However, the Board informed that it will conduct TBSE 12th, 10th examinations for students who are dissatisfied with their marks after the ongoing pandemic situation settles.
As many as 26,610 Class 10 and 27,205 Class 2 students were supposed to sit for board examinations from May 18 till June 11 this year.
Earlier, the state government said that it is conducting the possibilities of conducting the examinations only for selected papers. It also said a final call would be taken based on the marking system agreed upon by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Students must watch out this space to stay updated for the release of assessment criteria for Classes 10, 12 by the board.
