Chandigarh School Reopening: Schools to reopen from September 21 for Class 9 to 12
The media reports suggest that parents of over 50% of students have expressed their consent to allow students for voluntary visits to the schools for guidance.
Chandigarh School Reopening: According to the latest update, the Union Territory of Chandigarh is all set to reopen its schools from September 21, 2020, for students of Class 9 and above. The media reports suggest that parents of over 50% of students have expressed their consent to allow students for voluntary visits to the schools for guidance. According to tentative estimates, around 25,000 students studying at over 90 schools in the Union Territory of Chandigarh already submitted their consent forms to visit their schools starting from September 21 for doubt solving sessions with their teachers.
In line with the plan to reopen schools starting September 21, the UT education department and principals and heads of government schools of UT Chandigarh held a review meeting to assess the prevailing situation of COVID-19. Deputy District Education Officer Ravinder Kaur, Mission Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Manjit Kaur, and the Principals and Heads of all Government schools of UT, Chandigarh attended the meeting. A brief about the preventive measures to be undertaken before, during and after partial reopening of schools from next week was given during the meeting to the school administrators.
During the meeting, UT education department officials clarified that school principals must not allow students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff members residing in micro containment zones to visit schools. Along with this, school administrators were asked to prepare a detailed plan for entry and exit of students while not allowing any overcrowding at gates. Strict adherence to social distancing guidelines was also prescribed. Apart from this, students and staff members will also have to adhere to other guidelines and SOPS prescribed by the Union Health Ministry. The guidelines issued by the government include compulsorily wearing masks, following respiratory etiquettes, frequent hand washing and sanitization, provision of safe and clean drinking water, sanitization of school premises and more.
