College and University exams for UG/PG students cancelled except for final semester exams:Tamil Nadu Government
Except for the final semester exams, students who have paid the fee for subjects related to other semesters and waiting for exams shall be exempted from taking the examinations and they would be awarded marks.
The Tamil Nadu Government has announced that it has decided to scrap all the college and university pending exams for the intermediate semester students considering the coronavirus situation. The exam for Final Semester students will be conducted in accordance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines issued earlier. The decision regarding the cancellation of all the intermediate semester exams for colleges and Universities in the state was announced by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami.
While making the announcement, he said, that the decision has been taken by the state government keeping in mind the request of thousands of students who are to appear for the exam. Cancellation of exam is being implemented in the state in line with the recommendations of a high-level committee.
While announcing the decision, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that "Except for the final semester exams, students who have paid the fee for subjects related to other semesters and waiting for exams shall be exempted from taking the examinations and they would be awarded marks.” He also added that cancellation of all UG and PG Exams 2020 is in line and compliance with the UGC Guidelines issued on 6th July 2020. AICTE has also issued similar guidelines for students who are in their interim semester.
In an order issued by the state government earlier, it had allowed the undergraduate students of the first and second year who are pursuing polytechnic, arts and science along with those in the first, second and third year of their engineering courses,to move on to the next academic year. In addition to this, the first-year postgraduate students of arts, science and engineering streams and first and second year MCA students were also given the exemption and allowed to advance to the next year.
