Anna University received directions from the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a re-test for students who appeared for the online test in February after receiving complaints of poor results from students.

Anna University is mulling to conduct the re-exams for engineering students from the first week of June. The unsupervised test will be conducted online and students who have appeared for third, fifth, seventh semester online exams in February can appear for the same. The exam is optional for students. In order to explain the new mode of exams, the University conducted a meeting with the principals of the affiliated colleges. A principal of an engineering college, who attended the meeting conducted by Anna University, said, “Students will write the exam in pen and paper mode. They can answer a maximum of 30 pages and the university will follow the old question paper pattern.”

The exam will be of three-hour duration and the questions will carry 100 marks. “The question papers will be sent to respective colleges 30 minutes before the exam. After the exam, the students need to upload the scanned answer sheets and original answer sheets to the websites of their colleges,” another principal said.

The regional level will be evaluated by the University to declare results. Anna University received directions from the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a re-test for students who appeared for the online test in February after receiving complaints of poor results from students. Out of 4.25 lakh students who appeared for the online test, the university declared the results of 2.3 lakh students and withheld the results for others for suspected malpractices.

Out of 2.3 lakh students, only 1.1 lakh have cleared the exam. According to the sources, “The results of students who are involved in malpractices alone have been withheld.” The university also declared the results of first-year students. The first-year exams were conducted in March. Colleges said the first-year results were not as bad as those of the senior students.
