DTU Launches Double Major Track in Economics for BTech Students from 2026-27 Session
Delhi Technological University (DTU) has introduced a Double Major Track in Economics for BTech students from the 2026-27 academic session. The new programme is designed to help engineering students develop a strong understanding of economics alongside their technical education, preparing them for careers in technology, finance, consulting, public policy, and research.
According to the university, the curriculum goes beyond a basic introduction to economics and has been specially designed to meet the needs of engineers in a technology-driven economy. The programme combines economic theory with data-driven analytical skills that are increasingly in demand across industries.
The Double Major Track includes several contemporary and interdisciplinary courses such as Network Economics, Platform Economics, Energy Economics, Economics of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Game Theory, Mechanism Design, Causal Inference, Machine Learning for Economics, and High-Frequency Algorithmic Trading.
DTU said the programme has been structured to integrate with the existing BTech curriculum, allowing students to pursue the additional major without affecting their regular engineering studies. By combining engineering education with economics, the university aims to prepare graduates who can solve complex business, technological, and policy-related challenges.
The university believes that the programme will strengthen students' analytical, quantitative, and decision-making abilities while enhancing their employability across multiple sectors. Graduates are expected to find opportunities in technology companies, financial institutions, consulting firms, digital platforms, data analytics organisations, public policy bodies, and research institutions.
With the launch of the Double Major Track in Economics, DTU has become one of the few universities in India to offer a dedicated Economics double major within a BTech programme.
The new programme will be available to eligible BTech students beginning with the 2026-27 academic session. Further details regarding eligibility, registration, and course requirements can be checked on the official website of DTU.
