DU ICCR: Delhi University is all set to come up with a special centre in partnership with the Indian Council for Cultural Research (ICCR) under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) To cater to the needs of international students. DU recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the council, to improve academic and cultural exchange for overseas scholars and faculty. International students come to India on scholarships from around 120 countries under ICCR.

Talking about the MoU, the acting vice-chancellor of DU, PC Joshi said, “The centre will become the North zonal regional office of the council and will help all the foreign students who will be joining universities in North India. The role of this centre will be crucial since DU aims to increase enrolment of foreign students.”

In 2020, three times more foreign students took admission in DU despite the ongoing pandemic situation. The reports suggest that students from more than 80 countries enrolled in DU. ICCR sponsored most of these students.

“Apart from organising academic and cultural programmes, the ICCR will help in arranging residential facilities for the foreign students, which by far remains the biggest problem. The scholarships offered by the council will also attract students from other developing nations. Having a dedicated centre will ease out the pressure for students as they will have a one-stop solution for all the information and documentation-related queries,” Joshi added.

The centre will have the university’s deputy dean (Foreign Students), Amarjiva Lochan as the honorary advisor. The centre will also help in facilitating faculty and scholar exchange programmes.
