The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta has announced that 28 of its students have tested positive for COVID-19. Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities have also said that they are planning to announce the campus as a containment zone until the situation comes under control.  KMC Mayor, Firhad Hakim, said that 28 students have tested positive for Covid-19, and 58 others have been kept in isolation, as reported by DNA.

"We have given a proposal for random tests within the campus at an interval of three days. If the institute authorities do not agree to cooperate on this account, we will have no other option but to declare the entire campus a containment zone until the situation comes under control," he said.

As per the reports, all 28 students, who have tested positive, have got themselves tested from two separate labs.

Hakim further said that since many students come from outside, the chances that the COVID-19 virus will spread faster remains high. "KMC`s prime target now is to arrest the spread of the virus. If that can be kept under control, then another pandemic or semi-pandemic situation can be averted," he said.

The health department in a bulletin said that on Sunday, the state reported 40 new COVID-19 cases, 17 less than the previous day, with the tally rising to 20,18,860. However, there has been no Covid-related death in the state for the last seven days. At least 45 people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries to 19,97,241, it said.
