Online classes of all students studying at engineering, arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu except first grade will begin on August 9.

Online classes of all students studying at engineering, arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu except first year will begin on August 9. The online semester exams in all Tamil Nadu colleges ended in the third week of July.

The university was waiting for an approval from the higher education department to start online classes for the 2021-22 academic session.
Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi met representatives of a consortium of self-financed colleges in Tamil Nadu and the University of Arts and Sciences. He said the government would take steps to unify the weight of internal and written exams in engineering colleges across all universities.

“Anna University campus gives 50 per cent weightage for internal and written exams, while at affiliated colleges, the weightage for internal exams is 20 per cent and for written exams it is 80 per cent, “said Ponmudi.

Regarding the number of applications, he said they had received 41,363 applications for engineering admission counselling in two days. “TNEA has given us time to apply for engineering counseling until August 24, so we expect more applications in the next few days. The government’s College of Arts and Sciences has received 1,26,748 students in the last two days,” he said.

There are 1,00,102 seats available at 143 government arts and sciences colleges. The Department of University Education facilitates admission to these colleges online through portals www.tngasa.in and www.tngasa.org.

“In addition to applying online, students can also apply individually at government art and science colleges,” he added.

Collect 75% of tution fee: Ponmudi tells TN universities

He said the reopening of the university would be announced in consultation with the chief minister and medical professionals. “Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we instruct all universities not to collect more than 75 per cent of this year’s tuition,” said Ponmudi.

The minister said the high education department was also considering removing the norm that required BE and B Tech students to clear all papers in the first year in order to qualify for promotion in the final year.
