Colleges in Karnataka to reopen from tomorrow; state issues SOPs and guidelines

Schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions across the country have been kept closed since mid-March owing to the coronavirus outbreak and the nation-wide lockdown imposed to contain it.

The Karnataka government has released a list of COVID-19 safety guidelines for the colleges, schools and other educational institutions that are set to reopen from January 15, 2021. The guidelines have been released considering that the educational institutions are reopening amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions across the country have been kept closed since mid-March owing to the coronavirus outbreak and the nation-wide lockdown imposed to contain it. 

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Higher Education Dr C N Ashwath Narayan had announced that the colleges will be reopening for all students of undergraduate, postgraduate, engineering, and diploma courses across the state from January 15, 2021. The Karnataka government had already resumed the classes for final year students in the state with several Covid-19 safety guidelines. The colleges in Karnataka are resuming normal functioning after more than nine months of being shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Check the new guidelines released by the Karnataka government ahead of reopening of colleges below:

• Covid-19 tests not mandatory for students without symptoms
• Not more than 50 per cent of students in each class
• Students attending offline classes must compulsorily wear masks, carry sanitizers and bring food and water from home
• Students attending classes must get parental permission
• Libraries and canteens allowed to open with safety guidelines

Along with Karnataka, many other states including Delhi have also decided to reopen educational institutions in their respective states. Delhi government has earlier in the week announced that the schools in the state will reopen for students of classes 10 and 12 from Monday; i.e. January 18, 2021.
