Coronavirus: Telangana government shuts down all educational institutions till March 31

Telangana government has directed all the educational institutions across the state to be closed till March 31.

In wake of rising COVID-19 cases across the country, the Telangana government has directed all the educational institutions – schools, private and state-run colleges, universities, coaching centres, summer camps, and others-- around the state to be closed till March 31.

Following the order, Osmania University (OU) which in-houses the highest number of students from the state on its campus, constituent, affiliated colleges have also announced the closure of the same till March 31. However, the semester examination of OU will be held as per the schedule.

Across the state, the educational institutions have closed all its hostels, mess facilities, and libraries in order to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

As a preventive step, educational institutions in Telangana have also cancelled or postponed seminars, conferences, symposia, workshops, fests, sports events, etc., till March 31.

The IIT Hyderabad has also announced the extension of the semester breaks to its students in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The latest data released by the Ministry of Health stated that the number of positive cases of COVID-19 has reached 129 of which 17 are foreign nationals. Till now, it has claimed 3 lives in the country. The highest number of positive cases reported in the country are from Maharashtra followed by Kerala.

In order to contain the virus from spreading, educational institutions across the country have been shut till March 31.
