Following the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the Union Territory, Government-run and privately managed colleges in Puducherry have been directed to hold classes only online from today; i.e. March 26, 2021. The classes will be held six days a week; from Monday to Saturday.
A release from the office of Lt Governor on Thursday said Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan had approved of the Universities' proposal to hold classes only online. On March 4, schools in Puducherry were reopened for the students from classes 1 to 12. According to reports, the schools in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions were made functional for the full day according to the regular school timings from Monday to Saturday. It must also be noted that the consent of parents was required for students to attend the offline classes.

The decision to reopen the schools for the full day was taken by the Director of School education, T Rudra Goud. The schools have been shut since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. However, now with a sudden rise in the coronavirus cases, all schools for classes 1 to 8 in this Union territory have been directed to remain closed between March 22 and May 31.
