The Ghaziabad district administration in a letter to the director of school education, Uttar Pradesh requested to declare the summer vacation for schools from May 1 instead of May 20 in the wake of the prevailing health emergencies due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, the academic session in schools in the district was scheduled to begin from May 1. However, the country is currently under the grip of a lockdown imposed to contain the spread of the deadly virus COVID-19
While talking about the request made to the state’s director school education, District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey stated, “A recommendation has been made to the director of education to declare the summer vacation from May 1 instead of May 20. The academic session can be started from June 15.” He further expressed that the recommendation was made upon the request of several parent associations and students.
The continuously increasing positive coronavirus cases in India are a major concern. The outbreak of the contagious disease ruptured the education system of the country. In order to contain the spread of the COVID-19, the government imposed a 21-day nationwide lockdown until April 14 which was later further extended until May 3. The lockdown led to the postponement of exams, closure of academic institutions and delay in the commencement of the new academic session. While various states promoted the students of classes 1 to 9 and 11, the students of class 10 and 12 of many education boards including CBSE are still waiting for the dates of their pending exams.
