The Government of Delhi is all set to regularise private coaching centres operating in the capital. According to the reports, the Government will form a policy and frame guidelines with respect to the fee, safety measures and basic facilities. The government asked private coaching centres where more than 20 students are enrolled to register themselves with the Directorate of Education (DoE). This initiative has been taken by the Government keeping in mind that the private coaching centres are a parallel educational institution but functioning without any statutory compliance and regulation. This leads to serious health hazards for the students. Additionally, the government also proposed to collect the data of such private coaching institutes along with details of the land area, infrastructure, fee structure, safety standards, basic facilities, etc.

Yogesh Pal Singh, Assistant Director of Education, Delhi stated that private coaching institutes, offering coaching to medical/engineering aspirants or other professional exams or providing pre-exam coaching for securing Government/private jobs along with coaching or tuition of any subject taught at the secondary or higher secondary level are rapidly increasing in the capital. Considering that students from all over the country come to Delhi and take up admission in such institutes, their operating without any regulations pose a serious health hazard, added the Director.

Mr Singh also said the Government heard reports of certain events of cheating and fraud by some of these private coaching institutes but such complaints go unheard due to the lack of regulation. He added that the Government of Delhi is very much concerned with protecting the interests of such students who are already enrolled or seek to enroll in any such institute. He said that it is thus essential to urgently regulate the functioning of education provided by such coaching institutes within the jurisdiction of the national capital. All the private coaching institutes functioning in Delhi have thus been asked to register with DoE along with furnishing the information required (as prescribed in the proforma) until October 15, 2020.
