Delhi School Reopening: Considering the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Directorate of Education, DoE Delhi announced that all the schools and educational institutes in the national capital would remain closed until October 5, 2020. The directorate also stated that during this period, online classes for students will continue through digital and other mediums in order to curb academic losses. The announcement comes following the Home Ministry’s Unlock 4.0 Guidelines that allow the partial reopening of schools from September 21, 2020, onwards for Class 9 and above students.

To confirm the development about the reopening of the Delhi schools, the DoE, Delhi issued an official notification or order to all schools and educational institutions which confirms closure of educational institutions until October 5. The order reads “All government and private schools will remain closed for all students till October 5. However, online teaching and learning activities will continue as usual."

While the DoE order stated that schools would be closed and regular classes would remain suspended until October 5, 2020; the order makes a relaxation for school teachers and staff members. According to the notification, "School principals are authorised to call the staff as per requirement for smooth conduct of online classes or any other work.” This means that schools can call the teaching and non-teaching staff members into schools to prepare materials for online classes and virtual classes that are being held for students to ensure academic continuity.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government also urged state-run schools to take over online classes, which are currently being conducted by the Directorate of education. The recent notification issued by DoE also states,“In order to further strengthen and expand the Teaching-Learning Activities for classes 9 to 12, online classes are being decentralized for these classes of all the government and government-aided schools.”
