DU to reopen from February 17: Proctor Prof Rajni Abbi

Amid the ongoing demonstration by the students to resume physical classes,  Delhi University today announced that the campus will reopen from February 17. DU Proctor Professor Rajni Abbi while addressing the ABVP activist who was protesting at the DU announced that the varsity will reopen and by evening the DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh will release the official notification.

“Delhi University to reopen from February 17, announces Proctor Prof. Rajni Abbi following demonstration by students,” the ANI in the tweet stated.

Students have been demanding the varsity to reopen the campus for some time now. They were demanding to reopen the University and they protested against the closure of the University when COVID-19 cases in Delhi are declined. Nine ABVP activists had launched a hunger strike at Delhi University’s North Campus demanding the reopening of colleges. Left activists were also protesting for the same on the campus on Wednesday.

Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has earlier this week said that the varsity will be reopened after taking the stock of COVID situation and the level of preparedness. He said protesting students were becoming unnecessarily impatient and that such a big decision required many factors to be considered.

Meanwhile, Delhi University today held its academic council meeting to discuss the undergraduate curriculum for the session 2022-23. The council has met to discuss the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) that was presented on January 21, 2022. UGCF was created in a way to implement the reforms as per the new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). It is reported that the decision to reopen the campus was taken during the meeting.
