AICTE Model Curriculum for Minor Degree in Defence Technology
All India Council for Technical Education launched Model Curriculum for Minor Degree for Undergraduate Programme in Engineering and Technology in Defence Technology. This curriculum was announced by AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam in presence of AICTE’s Member Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath, President of Aeronautical Society of India and Chairman of Curriculum Committee Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, member of Curriculum Committee and president of Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) Rajinder Singh Bhatia, Senior officials of AICTE and representatives from defence sector.
Prof. Sitharam emphasised that curriculum has been designed to equip engineering students with specialised knowledge in aeronautical systems, naval technologies, weapon systems, cybersecurity, and advanced materials. He added that programme is aligned with dynamic needs of Armed Forces, DRDO, and Defence Manufacturing Industries, and also promoting interdisciplinary learning and fostering innovation. Students pursuing this minor degree will not only enhance their professional prospects, but also contribute significantly to a vital national cause. He urged the top 200 well performing technical institutions to proactively adopt this curriculum.
Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, Chairman of committee that designed curriculum, said after detailed discussions with stakeholders including the Armed Forces, Industry, DRDO and Academia this curriculum has been prepared. Minor Degree programme also includes field visits, seminars, and practical exposure to strengthen student learning.
