India, EU Discuss Boosting Education, Skill Development, and Research Collaboration
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to establish a structured mechanism for continuous policy dialogues, aimed at fostering long-term cooperation in education, skill development, and research.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with Minister of State Jayant Singh, engaged in discussions with Roxana Mînzatu, Vice President of the European Commission for Skills, Education, Quality Jobs, and Social Rights, to enhance collaboration between India and the European Union in education, skill development, and research.
Pradhan emphasized the vast potential for partnerships in key areas such as sustainability, critical technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). The discussions also explored the establishment of a framework for mutual recognition of qualifications, expansion of two-way mobility for students and faculty, joint and dual degree programs, and the possibility of offshore campuses of top EU universities in India.
Mînzatu briefed the Indian delegation on the EU’s flagship Erasmus and Horizon programmes, highlighting opportunities for Indian students, researchers, and institutions. Both sides acknowledged the need to bridge learning and skill gaps and to strengthen academic and skilling ecosystems through deeper collaboration.
