Maharashtra CET Cell Forms Social Media Task Force, Warns of Legal Action

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has established an independent task force to monitor social media posts related to its entrance examinations and admission processes. The authority has warned that legal action may be taken against individuals and accounts found spreading false or misleading information. In this regard, the authorities published a circular on October 19, 2026, that it had observed misleading information about entrance exams, examination schedules, results and the MHT CET CAP process circulating on social media.

It said that such information creates confusion among students and parents and can affect the institution’s reputation. The monitoring task force will cover platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and WhatsApp.

The authority has also flagged unauthorised claims promising services such as changing examination centres, increasing percentile scores and providing other examination-related benefits. Students who come across such false claims can report about the incident. Complaints can be sent to the CET Cell at socialmedia.complaints@mahacet.org.

All the complaints must include supporting evidence such as links to the concerned posts, screenshots and other relevant details. The authority will verify the information before deciding on further action.

The CET Cell clarified that the MHT CET 2027 exam dates not yet been announced. It directed the channel to remove the concerned video, issue a clarification and submit a written explanation with supporting evidence. A copy of the notice was also sent to Google India’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai.
