MHT CET Counselling 2026: 1.81 Lakh Engineering Admissions; Computer Engineering Most Chosen
The MHT CET counselling 2026 is over and this year the CAP process recorded 1,81,927 engineering admissions in Maharashtra. Check the most opted branches, SPPU admissions and district-wise data for more details.
According to the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, a total of 1,81,927 students have secured admission to engineering courses in Maharashtra for the 2026-27 academic year. The admissions were recorded across 387 engineering colleges offering 111 branches in the state. Computer Engineering emerged as the most opted branch, with 28,170 students taking admission. Mechanical Engineering was the second most chosen course with 19,702 admissions, followed by Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 18,895 admissions.
The latest figures come after the completion of the Maharashtra engineering admission process, including the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds and subsequent institutional and management quota admissions.

MHT CET Counselling 2026: Engineering Admissions Rise From Last Year
The number of engineering admissions in Maharashtra has increased compared with the previous academic year. In 2025-26, 1,66,746 students took admission to engineering courses. This year, the figure has increased to 1,81,927, a rise of 15,181 admissions.
The State CET Cell had made 2,03,293 seats available through the CAP process this year. Overall, the engineering admission process covered colleges affiliated with 17 public universities in Maharashtra.
The final admission data includes students admitted through the four CAP rounds as well as the institutional, management and other applicable admission routes. Computer Engineering recorded the highest number of admissions among the 111 engineering branches, with 28,170 students choosing the course. To register for MHT CET counselling, candidates have to visit the official website - cetcell.mahacet.org and register online with the details asked.
MHT CET counselling and seat allotment process has several steps. Once a seat is allotted to candidate, he/she has option to “Accept and Freeze” and “Accept and Float”. If he/she is satisfied with allotted seat and selects first option, participation in next round counselling is not allowed. If candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, he/she can select second option and participate in next round of counselling with the current seat.
Candidates who have not appeared in MHT CET exam can participate in the counselling based on their JEE Main score, if appeared. Candidates who did not appeared either in JEE Main or MHT CET can participate in the counselling based on their class 12 percentage.

A certain number of seats are reserved under Home-State quota and All India quota. All India quota seats are filled on the basis of JEE Main scores while Home-State quota seats are filled on through MHT CET scores. At the end of counselling/seat allotment on the basis of MHT CET and JEE Main, seats that remain vacant are filled on the basis of class 12 marks.
At the time of registration for MHT CET counselling, candidates need to provide the detail of applying for admission on the basis of JEE Main/MHT CET or class 12.
SPPU-Affiliated Colleges Record Highest Admissions
Among the universities covered by the Maharashtra CET Cell, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) recorded the highest number of engineering admissions, with 64,822 students. It was followed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, with 34,385 admissions, while the University of Mumbai recorded 32,126 admissions.
The university-wise figures indicate the concentration of engineering admissions across some of Maharashtra’s major university networks.
Pune also recorded the highest number of engineering admissions at the district level. A total of 49,616 students took admission to engineering colleges in Pune district.
Nagpur was next with 18,921 admissions, followed by Nashik with 12,469. Mumbai Suburban recorded 11,421 admissions, while Thane reported 11,236 admissions.
MHT CET 2026 Counselling: Round-wise Admissions
The four CAP rounds together accounted for 1,40,554 admissions. Round 4 recorded the highest number of admissions among the four rounds, with 48,689 students.
The remaining admissions were recorded through the institutional CAP round, management quota and Jammu and Kashmir/AICTE quota. After the completion of the admission process, 29,042 engineering seats remained vacant, according to the latest counselling data.
