Misuse of AI is dangerous for girls, says students group

All India JEE NEET Students Association has written a letter to the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology about the misuse of AI and the harmful Telegram bot.

"Misuse of AI is dangerous, especially for girls. @AIJNSA_official urge Hon'ble Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw sir, to take strong steps against the harmful Telegram bot and AI misuse. Let's prioritize safety and protect our citizens!," reads the tweet by AIJNSA.

The letter highlighted that a Telegram bot has surfaced that utilizes AI to remove clothing from images. This bot has the potential to cause immense harm and poses serious threats to the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals, especially young girls and women.

The availability of such AI tools not only encourages the creation and dissemination of explicit and non-consensual content but also facilitates cyberbullying, harassment and exploitation, said the association.

AIJNSA has strongly urged the minister to take stringent measures against the alarming misuse of AI.

The association has demanded a thorough investigation into the creators and operators of the Telegram bot, and collaboration with ISPs and other relevant stakeholders to identify and block access to the Telegram bot. By implementing measures to restrict its dissemination, we can minimize the potential damage inflicted upon unsuspecting victims, said AIJNSA.

The student group also suggested spreading awareness and education, strengthening regulations, and collaborating with tech companies.

"Encourage the integration of safety measures, such as content moderation tools and reporting mechanisms to mitigate the spread of harmful content and provide users with greater control over their digital experiences," added the students' group.
