National Awards to Teachers 2024: 16 Educators from HEIs and Polytechnic Selected for NAT
NAT 2024: A total of 16 teachers from HEIs and Polytechnics for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2024. Nominations were invited online allowing for self, institutional, and peer nominations as part of Jan Bhagidari.
National Awards to Teachers 2024
The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has selected 16 teachers from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2024. The selection process for NAT 2024 includes two steps: (i) an initial evaluation by the Preliminary Search-cum-Screening Committee for shortlisting nominees, and (ii) final selection by a 'Jury' committee from the shortlisted candidates.
Nominations for NAT 2024 were invited online via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at awards.gov.in, allowing for self, institutional, and peer nominations as part of Jan Bhagidari. The NAT honours outstanding teachers and faculty members from higher education institutions and Polytechnics across the following categories:
Category I: Teachers of Higher Educational Institutions:
- Sub-category (i): Engineering & Technology, Architecture.
- Sub-category (ii): Pure Sciences including Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy
- Sub-category (iii): Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, Management
Category II: Teachers of Polytechnic Institutions: Total 10 Awards
The 16 selected teachers are from Polytechnics, State Universities, and Central Higher Education Institutions. Their selection is based on performance evaluated across several parameters, including Teaching-Learning Effectiveness, Outreach Activities, Research and Innovation, Sponsored Research, Faculty Development Programs, and Consultancy Teaching. Among these, Teaching-Learning Effectiveness and Outreach Activities carry the most significant weight.
