No change in JEE Advanced 2027 Number of Attempts; Confirms IIT Kanpur Director

The students movement for increase in number of attempts in JEE Advanced might not bring the fruitful results for the coming exam cycle as IIT Kanpur Director has stated that limit increase could be looked into in coming years but not in immediate cycle. The petition for increase in number of attempts saw support from more than 12,000 students.

Currently, candidates can appear in JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years. However, growing pressure from student groups has brought the issue to the forefront. Aspirants have highlighted unique challenges, such as financial constraints preventing early coaching exposure or unexpected medical emergencies and accidents during exam years.

"The Director of IIT Kanpur, Manindra Agrawal, has stated that while no immediate changes are planned for the JEE Advanced 2027, a comprehensive overhaul is under consideration for the coming years. Agrawal noted that the exam has become heavily reliant on external coaching networks, prompting discussions on how to reduce this dependency and reshape the assessment format."

As per IIT Kanpur Director, an additional attempt could offer a fair chance to underprivileged rural students who lack early access to coaching, but, it also carries potential downsides. Many students who fail to clear the exam might spend an additional year facing further financial strain, increased coaching expenses, and heightened frustration. Consequently, any potential third attempt is likely to be evaluated strictly for special cases rather than as a broad, generic rule.
