JEE Mains: Aadhaar Card & Live Photograph Rules
Candidates should check whether their Aadhaar details are updated before applying for JEE Main 2027. Last year, NTA released a notification on September 29 asking candidates to update relevant Aadhaar, UDID and category certificate details.
The 2026 application process also included live photograph capture and identity-verification instructions which are likely to be followed this year. Candidates should therefore ensure that their personal details match their permitted identity documents and follow the photograph instructions displayed on the application portal.
NTA also issued a separate advisory for JEE Main 2026 candidates whose photographs did not match the submitted identity proof documents. This makes it important for applicants to review their uploaded photograph and identity details carefully.

Is It Mandatory to Upload a Category Certificate for JEE Main 2027?
Candidates applying under reserved categories should check the category certificate requirements before submitting the application form. Last year, NTA clarified that candidates were not required to upload the category certificate itself during online application. Instead, they had to enter the certificate number, date of issue and issuing authority in the relevant fields.
Candidates applying under reservation must wait for the latest year’s notification and ensure that their certificates meet the prescribed eligibility and validity requirements.
What Candidates Should Do Before JEE Main 2027 Registration?
Before beginning the application process, candidates should:
- Check their name, date of birth and other personal details against their identity documents.
- Update Aadhaar or other applicable identity records if necessary.
- Keep their photograph, signature and academic records ready.
- Check the certificate details required for their category, where applicable.
