Tata Power Skill Development Institute Joins Forces with Skill Council for Green Jobs to Boost Green Energy Skills

Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) joined forces to advance green energy skills training in India. This collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Delhi by Dr. Praveen Saxena, CEO of SCGJ, and Mr. Himal Tewari, Chief of Human Resources and Sustainability at Tata Power. The agreement sets out a comprehensive plan to launch various programs at all TPSDI centres across the country.

These programs are designed to boost skills in the renewable energy sector and to help more people find employment in environmentally friendly careers. To lead in capacity building for renewable energy, exploring green hydrogen opportunities, conducting joint research, and nurturing a skilled workforce for a sustainable future, the MoU focuses on establishing these joint training programs across six TPSDI centres in India.

Sustainable and Green Economy

The collaboration between the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) and Tata Power represents a significant step forward in driving India's shift towards a green and sustainable economy. As an initiative of the National Skill Development Mission, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), SCGJ plays a crucial role in bridging connections among various participants in the green energy industry.

The collaboration allows Tata Power and SCGJ to amplify invaluable expertise and resources, facilitating the development of skill development programs in India which shall be aligned with global best practices. With the country's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, and aiming to install 500 GW of renewable capacity while reaching 50 percent of cumulative electric power from clean energy sources by 2030, Tata Power recognizes the urgency of the task.

Through its partnership with SCGJ, Tata Power is addressing the need for a skilled workforce that can drive the shift towards sustainable practices. This collaboration highlights Tata Power's role as a leader in sustainable energy and supports India's goal for a more eco-friendly future, resonating with the "Sustainable is Attainable" mission.

Advancement of Renewable Energy Skills Development

This partnership focuses on boosting renewable energy skills through targeted programs, sharing expertise, and expanding capacity. Initiatives include launching Green Hydrogen Labs and solar training to improve hands-on skills. The collaboration will also offer joint certification to guarantee the programs' relevance and quality.

"Collaborating with SCGJ stands as a crucial step in our mission to revolutionize the green energy sector. Together, we aspire to cultivate a proficient green workforce to meet the escalating demand for skilled manpower in India's rapidly evolving green energy landscape. This partnership underscores Tata Power's unwavering commitment to sustainability, amalgamating SCGJ's expertise with our ongoing comprehensive training initiatives through Tata Power Skill Development Institute." - Mr. Himal Tewari, CHRO, Tata Power.

"Together, we are opening doors to capacity building and entrepreneurship in Renewable Energy, Green Hydrogen, and Research & Development, paving the way for a skilled generation ready to drive the transition towards a greener economy." said, Spokesperson, Skill Council for Green Jobs.
