Telangana to give ₹2,000 monthly scholarships for ITI/ATC students

Telangana already provides scholarships for school and college students under various categories. With the new announcement, vocational training students have been brought into the fold.
Telangana government has announced a monthly scholarship of ₹2,000 for students studying in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), now known as Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs). The benefit will come into effect from the next academic year and is expected to help thousands of students pursuing technical and vocational courses.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the scheme is part of the state’s effort to strengthen skill-based education and reduce dropout rates. “Our government wants every young person to have the opportunity to learn skills that guarantee employment. The ₹2,000 assistance will help them focus on their studies without financial worries,” he said while making the announcement.
The ATCs offer training in trades such as mechanical, electrical, and electronics, and were rebranded to provide modern industry-linked skills. Officials believe that the scholarship will make these institutes more attractive, especially for students from low-income families.
Principals of training centres welcomed the decision. “This stipend will ease the burden on poor households and encourage students to complete their courses. It will also help improve enrolment,” said a Hyderabad-based institute head.

Officials said detailed guidelines will be issued soon, and the first batch of beneficiaries will be students admitted in 2025-26.
The government is also considering industry partnerships to expand the scope of training in ATCs. Experts say such measures will boost employment prospects for youth and strengthen Telangana’s industrial base.
