UPES Launches AI Campus in Partnership With Google Cloud
University of Petroleum & Energy Sciences (UPES) has announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to launch an AI Campus aimed at integrating artificial intelligence and cloud technologies into education across multiple disciplines. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students and faculty members while strengthening the university’s focus on future-ready learning.
The move is part of UPES’ vision to become an AI-first university, where artificial intelligence is embedded across teaching, learning, research, and innovation. Students from engineering, computer science, business, law, design, health sciences, liberal studies, and media programs will be able to access AI-powered tools and learning opportunities through the partnership.
As part of the collaboration, UPES will implement Google Workspace for Education Plus across its campus ecosystem. More than 19,000 students, faculty members, and staff are expected to benefit from enhanced digital collaboration and learning tools.
Additionally, over 10,000 students will gain access to Gemini Enterprise for Education, Google’s advanced generative AI platform. The technology will support academic activities through AI-powered research assistance, intelligent teaching tools, automated workflows, and personalised learning support.
New B.Tech Programmes With Google Cloud
One of the major highlights of the partnership is the launch of an industry-integrated B.Tech program developed in collaboration with Google Cloud. The four-year program will offer practical exposure to cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and emerging technologies. Students enrolled in the program will also have the opportunity to earn multiple Google Cloud certifications, GEAR credentials, and specialised learning modules from the DeepMind AI curriculum.
To provide hands-on learning opportunities, UPES and Google Cloud will establish a dedicated Google Center of Excellence on campus. The centre will host live labs, industry-led projects, hackathons, research initiatives, and innovation programs. Students will also get opportunities to work on real-world AI applications and emerging agentic AI technologies.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Abhishek Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Success) at UPES, said the partnership would help students become creators of technology rather than just users of it.
Vaibhav Kumar Srivastava, India Head for Edtechs and Education at Google India, said the collaboration aims to equip both students and teachers with practical AI skills and strengthen digital learning outcomes. With the launch of the AI Campus, UPES hopes to prepare students for careers in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
