VITEEE Counselling 2026 (Phase I): Mistakes to Avoid during Choice Filling
Choice-filling stage can be confusing and cost you heavily if not done right. Here are some tips that students must keep in mind, and avoid during this process-
Understand the VIT category system properly
- First, check your VITEEE Result 2026 and download your rank card.
-
Each branch is offered across five different fee slabs. Category 1 has lowest tuition fees, and category 5 has highest fees.
-
If your rank is under 15000 to 2000 mark, don’t restrict yourself with prefrences. Include categoies 2 and 3 options as well to ensure seat allotment, as CSE at VIT Vellore closes within the first 1000 or 1500 ranks.Â
Filling Less Choices
Many phase I candidates might feel a little overconfident and may end up filling 3 to 5 choices. However, with over 20000 students competiting for limited number of low category seats, the no allotment can be a risk. So, here’s what to do -
-
Fill at least 10 to 20 combinations of campuses, branches, and categoies to stay secure.
Campus and Branch Preferences

VIT has four main campuses - Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and AP. Priortise branch if you are career-focused, especially since the placement cell is centralised across campuses. Don’t wait for last minute and lock choices before deadline.
Avoid Following Previous Marking and Cutoff: Use it just for reference
Since VIT does not release official cutoff, students mostly rely on closing cutoff rank. However, that is just for reference and must not be followed sincerely. So, be flexible and use recent trends, talk to seniors, andgather feedback to opt for best preferences.Â
As, the VITEEE counselling 2026 registration is ongoing, understand and look what's best for you. All the best.Â
