Free education until graduation to kids orphaned by COVID-19: Tamil Nadu government
A special task force has also been announced under the district collector to identify the children whose parents have passed away from the pandemic so that assistance can be provided to them.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin declared that the children in the state orphaned due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be provided with an assistance of Rs 5 Lakh from the state government. Along with the relief announcement, the state also joined the list of states which have announced financial aid for the students who have been orphaned due to the pandemic. The government further added that all the educational expenses of the students until their graduation will be taken care by the state government. A special task force has also been announced under the district collector to identify the children whose parents have passed away from the pandemic so that assistance can be provided to them.
According to the information provided, the children of those who passed away due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are left with no support will get Rs 5 Lakh each as a deposit in the name of the beneficiary. The children will get the hold of the amount along with the interest upon reaching the age of 18 and similarly, Rs 5 Lakh will be deposited in the name of the children who have already lost either of their parents and have now also lost both their parents to the disease.
The government notification further added that priority will be given to accommodation in government homes and hostels to children who have been orphaned. The Chief Minister stated that the government will be handling all the expenses of the children including their accommodation until their graduation.
The accommodation along with the Rs 3 Lakh is being provided to provide immediate relief to the father or mother who is the beneficiary of the child who has lost a parent. A monthly allowance of Rs 3000 will also be provided towards the care of the children growing with the support of relatives until they reach the age of 18.
