Talking about reopening the schools, Goa CM Pramod Samant stated that as of now a final decision with regards to reopening of schools in the state has not been taken, but soon a consultative review meeting will be held with all the stakeholders in which final decision will be taken.

Goa to reopen schools from October 2 onwards. According to the latest update, Goa State Government is considering to reopen schools partially for Class 10 and Class 12 students from 2nd October onwards, in line with Home Ministry’s Unlock 4.0 Guidelines. Talking about reopening the schools, Goa CM Pramod Samant stated that as of now a final decision with regards to reopening of schools in the state has not been taken, but soon a consultative review meeting will be held with all the stakeholders in which final decision will be taken.

According to the reports, from September 21 onwards, the state government is planning to allow students to visit schools on a voluntary basis for doubt solving sessions with the teachers. However, in line with Unlock 4.0 Guidelines, students need to follow strict guidelines against COVID-19 spread while visiting schools for such sessions and also ensure that they carry a consent letter duly signed by their parents.

Mr Samant who also holds the portfolio for Education Ministry, also conveyed that the final decision regarding the reopening of schools in the state would be taken based on a critical review of the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state. In order to discuss the matter of reopening of schools and implementation of New Education Policy 2020, Mr Samant held a virtual meeting with ADEIs of all the talukas and representatives of different school associations. During this meeting, the need for reopening schools was expressed by many stakeholders, especially considering the internet connectivity issues for students from rural areas.

After the meeting, Mr Samant issued a statement stating “Decision regarding reopening of schools, especially Class X and XII will be taken only after October 2 in consultation with experts and considering the pandemic situation. Internet connectivity is still an issue for students in villages, the government will address this as soon as possible.”
